Westbrook World Markets

The Westbrook World Market initiative is a vibrant collaboration between Discover Downtown Westbrook and the Immigrant Welcome Center (IWC), launched in 2024 to celebrate and elevate the city’s diverse small business community. Focused on five immigrant-owned international food markets in downtown Westbrook, the initiative is designed to expand visibility, strengthen sales, and connect these unique businesses with a wider audience.

Whether it be fresh produce, specialty spices, pantry essentials, or imported retail items, it can all be found right here in Westbrook.

April is Westbrook World Market Month!

Join us in celebrating the vibrant flavors and cultures that make downtown Westbrook so unique. Each Wednesday in April, we’ll spotlight one of our incredible World Market businesses—highlighting their stories and specialties.

During their featured week, we invite you to stop in, say hello to the staff, and pick up something new to try. Whether it’s a favorite comfort food from afar or a completely new flavor, every visit is a chance to explore, connect, and support a local business.

It’s more than just shopping—it’s about building community, discovering new tastes, and getting to know your neighbors.

Come hungry, stay curious, and celebrate Westbrook—one market at a time!

More about the Westbrook World Market Project

Beyond storefront improvements, the World Market initiative brings these businesses directly into the heart of the community. Participating markets are featured at local events and festivals, creating new opportunities for residents and visitors to experience global flavors right here in Westbrook. This year, two markets proudly joined the celebration at Winterfest. Be sure to look for the at our Westbrook Discovered Gala on May 2nd!

The initiative is supported by funding from the Maine Department of Economic and Community Development and strengthened through a partnership with the City of Westbrook, which has helped fund both interior and exterior upgrades to each location. Additional project support includes estimating services from Wright Ryan and design visioning and funding from the Maine Interior Design Association.
