Light Up Westbrook!

A wonderful part of the holiday season, festive light arrays have added sparkle to our seasonal decor for decades. Here in Westbrook, we have a light display that we can all be proud of.

Thank you to the Public Works Department

Westbrook’s holiday lights have been growing steadily each year, thanks to the dedication of the City’s illustrious Public Services Department. This year the City has expanded the display to add more lights along Main Street and throughout Riverbank Park, plus an impressive larger-than-life festive tree in the Center of the new Westbrook Commons space.

Doug Eaton, the operations supervisor for the City, shares, “This time of year, when the daylight hours continue to decrease, the lights add a little bit of warmth to the cold dark night sky,” said Eaton. “And they also bring a little bit of hope.”

Glowing Thanksgiving to early January, Westbrook’s holiday lights provide the perfect backdrop for an inspired evening stroll through the downtown or heated outdoor dining along the Riverwalk.

Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony

Each year the Westbrook-Gorman Chamber of Commerce hosts its annual Tree Lighting Ceremony in Riverbank Park. This year the tree lighting ceremony will be on Sunday, December 5th from 4:45 pm – 5:30 pm! There will be hot chocolate, cookies, live music by the Westbrook High School band, and festive fun. For more information, go to the Facebook event.

Window Display Competition

As a way to compliment the beautiful light display downtown, Discover Downtown Westbrook hosted its 2nd Annual Window Display Competition. Businesses were encouraged to decorate their storefront windows throughout the month of December.

Voting took place from December 7th-21st. In addition to the most popular window display, we introduced fun *new* categories as well, determined by an independent volunteer committee.

There were 12 businesses who participated in our Window Display Competition this year – and they all looked amazing!
The competition between first and second place People’s Choice Award was very close, so we chose to honor both businesses.

We also recruited a panel of guest judges to vote for Best Light Display, Best Use of Merchandise, and Most Inclusive. Thank you to the team at Bath Savings for voting on these categories.

See all displays here, and winners below!

People’s Choice – ‘Brook City Nutrition

People’s Choice Runner-Up – Shine Salon

Best Use of Merchandise – Bloom Consignment and Resale
